Julie Richards is one of Godfrey & Lapuyade's "rising stars," with substantial experience in high-stakes, cutting edge litigation. She brings to her practice a widely diverse background, with a focus on commercial litigation. Her experience also includes personal injury, insurance coverage, construction defect, medical malpractice, real estate, insurance bad faith, municipal liability, and appellate work in both federal and state courts. Ms. Richards has experience in mass-tort medical device litigation and multi-state federal class action litigation, and she has managesd segments of of complex multijurisdictional disputes involving complex issues of conflicts of law, forum selection and multidistrict litigation (MDL). Most recently, Ms. Richards participated on the trial team that obtained a favorable in the largest FDCPA class action ever tried in the United States, securing a defense verdict on actual damages in a $30-million class action. She has also served in a leading role in the prosecution of the largest construction defect case in Colorado history relating to pre-engineered public steel buildings, widely known as the Larimer County Fairgrounds litigation. Before joining Godfrey & Lapuyade, P.C., Ms. Richards practiced for several years on the western slope after completing an internship with the Municipal Law Division of the City and County of Denver, where she assisted in the defense of administrative actions, aided in the representation of the City and County as creditor in various bankruptcy proceedings, and handled cases involving land use, zoning issues and local land use policy. Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Richards completed a Study Abroad Program in Political Science and International Law at Uppsala Universitet, Uppsala, Sweden (2000-2002). She is also fluent in Swedish.
